FESTIVAL DO SILÊNCIO
Apartamentos

FINALMENTE 40 anos!
PREMIO NOVO BANCO PHOTO 2016
“QUEL PEDRA” by Pauliana Valente Pimentel

NOVO BANCO Photo 2016 opens this Wednesday at Museu Coleção Berardo.
The NOVO BANCO Photo prize has become one of the key moments of the year in Portugal for the consecration of an artistic practice. Participation by the Portuguese-speaking African countries in this area is an ongoing activity, that enables the exchange of knowledge and experiences for the artists and audiences involved.
The 2016 edition had a prestigious selection jury, composed of experts from each country represented: David Santos, curator and deputy director of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage (DGPC), Lisbon; Paula Nascimento, curator, architect and director of Beyond Entropy Africa, Luanda, Angola, and Pompílio Hilário Gemuce, artist and professor at the School of Visual Arts in Maputo, Mozambique.
The artists selected for this exhibition are: Félix Mula, Mozambique; Mónica de Miranda, Angola and Portugal; and Pauliana Valente Pimentel, Portugal.
Selection of each artist represents, in its own right, recognition of a prestigious career confirmed by various successes. Each of the three artists has a different positioning in relation to photography, however the thematic aspects of the works specifically produced for this award intersect with different meanings.
In June, an international jury will decide the winner of this year’s edition.
“N`WE Collective”
I announce, with a great pleasure, the new photographic collective “N`WE Collective”. The first exhibition will take place next week in London in the also new space “CERA project”.

N´WE is the first collective of artists from Portuguesespeaking countries, that primarily work with photography and video. N´WE is about rethinking the multilayersthat subsistin looking at these territories thatwere united by a common language – the Portuguese. A collective project that aims to interweave dialogues among peopleand its stories, exposing personal realities that reclaim a global /(hi)story.
THE CERA PROJECT is an itinerant and independent art platform, that departs from the premise that ‘if the world is flat, as the prophets of globalization proclaim, then what happens on the underside?”, and is envisaged as an itinerant platform for the promotion and exhibition of arts on an international level, that aims to focused on and about Global South’s narratives.
